Our Commitment to Metacomet

The Metacomet property is a special place to many in East Providence, and it is equally as special to us. For decades, the property has been fenced off to the public as a private golf course, and we are proud of our plan to take down those fences, and open up Metacomet as an amenity to the people of East Providence.

Over the past few months, we've hosted various community forums to engage with community members and stakeholders to come up with a zoning plan for the Metacomet property that reflects the feedback we've received. We're proud that our current zoning proposal reflects that feedback, and would:

  • Preserve over 50 percent of the property (71 of the 138 acres) as open space accessible to the community.

  • Generate millions of dollars in estimated tax revenue for the City of East Providence to help fund important projects like the new high school, and other needed infrastructure -- all while creating new jobs and opportunities for residents.

  • Create new pedestrian paths and buffer zones for the public that will increase road safety for abutting neighborhoods.

  • Double the buffer along Fisher Street from 50 feet to100 feet. This is a new commitment since the last community meeting.
